amortize the full annual fee evenly across the remaining months of your fiscal year instead of making a balloon payment.
Most SR&ED consultants charge on contingency, taking a percentage of your refund, typically anywhere from 10% to 25%. As a rule, the larger the claim the lower the rate, but usually only if you negotiate, and the lowest rates are generally reserved for claims above $1 million. SRED.ca charges a flat fee instead: $15,000 per claim for refunds up to $349,000, $30,000 for refunds of $350,000 to $999,000, and $60,000 for refunds of $1 million or more. The fee is fixed regardless of how large your refund turns out to be.
Flat-fee pricing means you pay a fixed, known price for your SR&ED claim instead of a percentage of your refund. SRED.ca is the only SR&ED firm in Canada with flat-fee pricing. You know your cost before the work begins, and the fee does not rise as your refund grows.
It depends on claim size, but flat-fee pricing saves more as refunds grow. On a $300,000 claim over five years, contingency pricing can cost $165,000 to $240,000 more than SRED.ca’s flat fee. Contingency ties your cost to refund size; a flat fee caps it.
Most do. Contingency fees based on a percentage of the refund are the industry norm. SRED.ca does not: it charges a flat fee per claim, so a larger refund does not mean a larger bill.
